High School Students
NO High School Group meeting on Sunday, 11/24!
Calvary’s High School Group (9th - 12th Grade Students) meets during the school year on Sunday evenings from 5-7pm in the Youth Cafe.
On Sunday we will begin a new teaching series called On Repeat. We will look at the life of Jesus and see how we can repeat what He did in our lives now that we are empowered by His Spirit. We are called Christians, why? Here is how the Heidelberg Catechism answers this question:
Because by faith I am a member of Christ
and so I share in his anointing. I am anointed
to confess his name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks,
to strive with a free conscience against sin and the devil in this life.
In this series we will see how Jesus Listened, Loved, Cared, and Encouraged. Since we are members of His body on earth, how we can Be with Jesus, To Become Like Jesus, To Do what Jesus Did.
Over the past couple of years we have regularly served at the Modesto Gospel Mission after school care program. Typically we lead a few games, do a bible study and lead a time of small groups. This next chance we have to go we want to give a foretaste of the coming Kingdom of God. It is the week of Thanksgiving that we will serve, November 25th (Monday). During this service we will provide a lavish meal of tri-tip, mashed potatoes, and corn. The students coming will serve those attending. We will have music to accompany the meal. We will also have a teaching. Why a table? Because it is a place of access. When you let someone join you at a table you are inviting them in. Bringing them close. Opening yourself up in a way that's vulnerable. Jesus himself came into the world and was known for eating and drinking with sinners. Invited himself to Zacchaeus' house to dine with him. Set a table before his disciples in the upper room before His death. Met with them upon his resurrection around a fire with breakfast. What is promised ahead is a marriage feast with the Bridegroom and the Bride at a table. We want this table to give a representation of the heart of God for orphans. There is room at the table for you. Come and share in the abundance and generous supply of your Heavenly Father.
Please mark your calendars for November 25th. We will have 10 spots open for service and I know it is going to be a busy time. But I believe it will be an impactful moment to share the heart of God by serving, creating space for joy, and sharing the gospel invitation to come and be reconciled with God. The table has been set.
